Attach an essay of no more than 500 words indicating what most influenced you to apply to George Washington University

I want to spend the next four years of my life in a big city, with theaters and museums, government buildings, and history. When George Washington University uses its slogan, something happens here, it is epitomized everywhere in the university and its city.

One sign that this university lives up to its slogan is the sheer amount of security on campus. Secret Service, FBI, Metro Police, Campus Security, the list goes on. Something must be happening! The university is so close to many important buildings that all these agencies have to protect it. This necessity of protection gives the campus an aura that many universities not surrounded by such grandeur do not have.

While I will hopefully not have to use the campus security, I want to take advantage of all George Washington has to offer. I find it fascinating that my professors will have jobs doing what they are teaching me. What I will learn at George Washington what the real world is all about, and I will be able to use it as soon as I step foot into “the real world” of Washington DC. The classrooms at George Washington are not just classrooms. They are the entranceway into this very real world, and something, important things will happen in there.

On top of all the wonderful things George Washington has to offer, its claim to be a university where something happens, is made greater by the fact that it is in our nation’s capitol. My interest in politics has increased in the last year, due to the recent (and heartbreaking) election, and I can’t wait to be in the city where politics happen. Washington DC also has a rich cultural life – theaters, concerts, and museums. I have adored the Smithsonian since before I can remember. I could give blindfolded tours of the History and Natural History Museums, and I will never forget the Star Wars exhibit that used to be in the Air and Space Museum. It would be an honor to do research inside the beautiful Library of Congress, and if I wanted, I could see a different play every night of the week at the city’s various theaters.

George Washington University is exactly what a university should be – a place where something happens. The real world is full of busy streets, museums, theaters, politics, and George Washington offers all of this. College should be a time of personal discovery and growth, and what better a place than this amazing university in this amazing city?
